Free Community Fitness Events Happening This Month
Greensboro Parks and Recreation and local partners are running no-cost group workouts at several public sites through the end of July.
How we reported this
Greensboro Parks and Recreation launched its July schedule of free fitness classes on July 1, with sessions already drawing 40 to 60 participants at each of the first two events held at Fisher Park.
City staff say the timing reflects growing demand for outdoor activity options that require no membership or equipment fees, especially as temperatures climb and residents look for structured ways to exercise near home rather than drive to paid facilities.
Two central locations host weekly sessions
Every Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. through July 29, a free boot-camp style class meets on the open lawn at Fisher Park along Church Street between North Elm and North Eugene. Instructors from the department lead circuits that use body weight and resistance bands supplied on site. On Thursday mornings at 8 a.m., the same department runs a walking group that starts at the Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway trailhead off Wendover Avenue near the Sunset Hills neighborhood, covering a flat 3-mile loop before returning to the parking area.
Both programs are open to adults of any fitness level, with modifications shown for beginners. No registration is required, though participants are asked to bring water and wear weather-appropriate clothing.
Attendance data and next steps
Department records show 3,450 people attended the 12 free fitness events held citywide between January and June this year, up from 2,780 during the same period in 2025. July dates include additional sessions on July 15 at Fisher Park and July 23 on the Greenway. Residents who want to attend can check the city website for any weather-related changes or call the Parks and Recreation main office at 336-373-2171 for details on parking and meeting points.
Those new to group exercise are encouraged to arrive 10 minutes early at either site to speak with the instructor before the session begins.
